The Paul Barry Blues Trio with Lila Ammons is a soulful Minnesota group that blends Chicago Blues and West Coast Jump Blues. The trio consists of harmonica player and vocalist Paul Barry, vocalist Lila Ammons, guitarist Jon Pederson and pianist Tampa Spatz.

Barry, a mainstay of the Twin Cities blues scene from 1980-1996, has shared the stage with some of the best blues musicians, including Willie Dixon, George “Harmonica” Smith, Jimmy Rogers, William Clarke and Sunnyland Slim. Barry was a protégé of the late, great harmonica player William Clarke. Barry was prominently featured on the acclaimed final CD of Chicago blues pioneer, Otis “Big Smokey” Smothers.

After taking time off due to health and family matters, Barry re-emerged in in 2011 and assembled Paul Barry & The Ace Tones and the Paul Barry Blues Trio. In 2016, he released his debut, Talk Is Cheap, with top Twin Cities-area blues players. The CD was recognized as one of the Top 40 blues releases of 2016 by Blues Junction and has been nominated by the Minnesota Blues Society for induction into the 2017 Minnesota Blues Hall of Fame.

Paul recruited Lila Ammons, a world-renowned jazz and blues singer with royal roots. Her grandfather is the legendary boogie-woogie piano player, Albert Ammons, and her uncle is tenor sax giant, Gene Ammons. Lila often performs with her Minneapolis Jazz trio.

Jon Pederson has been playing guitar since the late 1960s with blues legends, including pianists Lazy Bill Lucas and Butch Thompson. Pianist Tampa Spatz spent 30 years in the Twin Cities blues scene and represented Minnesota as solo performer at the 2014 International Blues Challenge.
