The Blacksmith’s Daughters are forging music for the soul. Recently formed in 2015, the band was tempered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This sister folk/pop band delivers music with a message. Soaring melodies, intense harmonies and intertwined guitar and ukulele progress the storyline in every song.
Like the elements themselves each song they smith is unique therefore The Blacksmith’s Daughters use a variety of instruments and change up the musicians to create their individual sound. The four pillars of the band are the two sisters, Annella Platta and Julida Alter, and their iron clad musicians (and husbands), Brent Platta and Sean Alter.
Two other regulars in the band are Jeremy Swider on violin and Krista Swider on viola. Jeremy and Krista teach private violin and viola lessons and also perform in the ensemble Sonorous Strings.
If you are curious to learn more about the initial inspiration for the band’s name check out the family business at Boleslaw Kochanowski Wrought Iron.
A three piece band from MPLS, Red Eye Ruby combines old folk traditions, storytelling, and jazz undertones to create a medicinal listening experience... Playing 9:40-11:00pm
Caitlin Pieper // cello
Caitlin has been studying cello for many years. She is inspired by everything from the great classical concerti to the guitar gods of modern rock music. She uses classical technique and raw intuition to provide a unique virtuosic flair that combines edginess with class.
Liz Collin // vocals, guitar
A dark and dynamic alto, Liz generates a haunting and visceral vocal texture. After studying classical guitar as a young child, she found herself being influenced by the smoky sounds of old jazz and folk music. A love for literature led her to study more seriously the storied past of the English language. This marriage of poetry and song keeps her inspired to continue creating a genre of music that is truly her own.
Caley Pieper // keyboards, trumpet
An audiophile from infancy, Caley uses his diverse array of musical taste to inspire writing and performance in multiple settings. Returning now to his first love, the piano, he combines his classical studies, jazz experience, and love of rock n' roll to bring a unique flavor to the group.
