Merciless Ghost is a free jazz trio in the best sense of the term, which is to say that it is devoted to the spirit of group improvisation and the sometimes agonizing struggle to speak using one’s own voice. The band features George Cartwright on saxophones, Josh Granowski on bass and Davu Seru on drums.

About the Members:
George Cartwright. Born in the Mississippi Delta George has been performing composed and improvised musics for over 20 years. From totally improvised concepts to the relatively structured beat music of his band Curlew his experiences have been considerable.
His playing partners have included Onette Coleman, David Thomas, Chris Stamey, Myra Melford, Kip Hanrahan, Alex Chilton, Bill Laswell, Sonny Sharrock, Fred Frith, Butch Morris, Jad Fair, Tony Hymas, The Box Tops, Samm Bennett, Paul Haines, Amy Denio, Kevin Norton, Ann Rupel, Robbie McCauley, Tom Varner, Mark Dresser, Carei Thomas, Davey Williams, Chris Cochrane, Michael Lytle, Adam Linz, Carei Thomas, Jt Bates, Alden Ikeda, Michelle Kinney, Jacqueline Ultan, Régis Huby, Anthony Cox, Didier Petit, Michael Lewis, Dean Granros, Tim Glenn, Davu Seru, Anne Elias, Meg Emery-Elias, Andrew Broder, Andrew Lafkas, David Means Troy Zaushny, and others. Josh Granowski. Born in IL, 1984. Josh spent his formative years in Northern MN . He began playing the mighty contrabass at age 11; bass guitar soon to follow. He spent the majority of adolescence: studying classical etudes with a cellist, playing punk/thrash/rock music with friends, playing jazz standards with older people. He went to university school to study music. Stole his teacher's gigs. Left university school. Josh has lived in Minneapolis since 2004. Has played hundreds of festivals, local shows, and casual touring of the United States. Has not been to CA. Would like to. Has not been to Europe. Would like to. Enjoys playing all kinds of music. Josh is very active in the twin cities improvisation and experimental music community. He can be seen with: Large Marge, Bookhouse Trio, Baby Demons Trio, George Cartwright & Davu Seru, Painted Saints, Aby Wolf, Stefan Kac's Consortium of Symphonic Transients, Ensemblable (duets w/ Jon Davis), and too many individuals to name here.

Davu Seru began playing drums in 1985. Except for a few weeks of percussion lessons in Ghana, he is a self-taught musician. He calls himself a jazz musician. He's worked with numerous improvising musicians, including Milo Fine, Andrew Lafkas,Jaron Childs, Charles Gillett, Jack Wright, Anthony Cox, Evan Parker, Wendy Ultan, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Adam Linz, George Cartwright, Stefan Kac, Taylor Ho Bynum, Jim Baker, Robbie Lynn Hunsinger, Tatsu Aoki, David Boykin, Nicole Mitchell and Harrison Bankhead. He also plays in the instrumental rock band Take Acre. He's been a curator of concert series that featured jazz and European and American improvised music in both Chicago and Minneapolis; those were the "Early Friday Out-Sets" at Hothouse in Chicago (1999-2000) and "Unum" at the former Gus Lucky's Gallery in Minneapolis (2000-01).
